About Widex
Widex, a renowned hearing aid brand, traces its origins back to Denmark over six decades ago, founded by engineer Christian Tøpholm and business entrepreneur Eric Westermann, both of whom had prior experience at Oticon under founder William Demant. Widex has gained widespread popularity and is recognized for its innovative engineering approaches and unique approaches to sound processing. Some of its notable contributions to the industry include pioneering the world’s first digital ITE (In-The-Ear) hearing aid, introducing longer attack/release times in processing, developing in-situ fittings for testing hearing loss via the hearing aid itself, and implementing fractal tones to address tinnitus (known as Widex Zen). These innovations have influenced the broader industry, with many competitors adopting similar technologies.
In March 2019, Widex merged with Sivantos, formerly Siemens Hearing Instruments, a key player among the “Big Five” global hearing aid groups, which also includes Signia and Rexton brands. This merger resulted in the formation of WS Audiology (WSA), making it the third-largest hearing aid company worldwide. Despite this growth, the company remains primarily under the control of the Westermann and Tøpholm families, maintaining its legacy of innovation and leadership in the field of hearing solutions.
Today, Widex hearing aids are renowned for their innovative approaches aimed at delivering unparalleled sound quality and optimal performance in various real-life scenarios.
Widex Moment Hearing Aids
Launched in 2020, Widex Moment, powered by ZeroDelay™ technology, addresses one of the great unsolved challenges facing the hearing aid industry: how to overcome the delay-based distortion that leaves many listeners with an artificial, dissatisfying, and demotivating hearing experience. Widex Moment hearing aids process sound so quickly, that the artificial sound associated with hearing aids is eliminated, resulting in clear natural and sound like no other hearing aid on the market.
Applicable for virtually all hearing losses, Widex Moment builds upon the machine-learning and AI technology initially introduced in its predecessor, and is designed to enhance sound personalisation to more closely match hearing aid sound quality to wearers’ lifestyles.
Widex’s Moment platform covers all hearing needs, providing RIC models, including the latest Sheer and SmartRIC styles, rechargeable BTE option and Custom ITE options.

Widex Moment Key Features and Benefits
“PureSound Experience” with ZeroDelay Technology
The sound from other conventional hearing aids can be delayed due to the effects of signal processing, and even though this delay is usually small, i.e. just a few milliseconds, the mixed sound can still cause the perception of distortion due to phase differences (called the “comb-filter effect”) between the digitally amplified and the natural sound entering the ear.
Widex ZeroDelayTM solves this and promises the most natural, least distorted sound experience ever. Simply put, ZeroDelay™ delivers the hearing aid sound to the eardrum faster than ever before, avoiding sound quality degradation that can occur when combining sound from the hearing aid and natural sound which passes through hearing aid’s ear tip.
Widex PureSound is designed for these open or vented hearing aid fittings and provides an innovative alternative to its classic Universal listening program. PureSound overcomes the artificial or tinny sound that can arise from phase differences in open fittings. Additionally, Widex research indicates ZeroDelay can better preserve the natural cues that listeners use for spatial perception than hearing aids with longer processing delays. The company calls the sound delivered via ZeroDelay its “PureSound experience.

What Makes Widex Unique?
Innovative Style and Shape
The latest product from Widex, introduced only in February 2024, is the L-shaped SmartRIC. What makes model so unique is that it is a radical departure from its traditional RIC form factor, as it uses a 20-degree curve at the top of the hearing aid to elevate its microphone components. Placing the microphones in this fashion allows them to better align with the wearer’s focus, leading to an enhanced signal-to-noise ratio, especially in challenging listening environments.
Widex and Music Quality: The Choice of Musicians Around the World
Widex Moment hearing aids are particularly well-liked for their sound quality and music streaming, which helped it earn a place on the 2023 Expert Choice Award Winners list of the independent hearing lab HearAdvisor.
Widex also has a number of ‘sound ambassadors’ including some well-known and renown musicians from around the world.
Widex SoundRelax: Tinnitus Relief
Whilst hearing aids themselves can provide tinnitus relief just by amplifying soft sounds around a hearing aid wearer, Widex was a leader in tinnitus relief by adding an additional sound generation feature called Zen in 2012. Unlike conventional tinnitus masking sounds like white noise, Widex pioneered Zen Tones, which are randomly generated harmonious and melodic sounds reminiscent of wind chimes which can be used for relaxation and to make tinnitus less noticeable.
Widex Moment builds upon Zen’s legacy by including an updated feature called ‘SoundRelax’ which provides a new frontier in Tinnitus management for those experiencing constant tinnitus, or for those hearing aid wearers looking for sound therapies and strategies to lower stress and anxiety.
